IMLPs visit GE Surgical Facility & Hit the Slopes

Healthcare IMLPs Pose on the SlopesA group of IMLPs recently visited the GE Healthcare Surgery facility in Salt Lake City, Utah.  We took a tour of the manufacturing floor featuring the C-arm product and learned about the unique business.

While we were in the area, we also were able to enjoy the beautiful surroundings.  We took a tour of Park City where the Sundance film festival was being held and we skied at a few of the resorts in the area.

It always amazes me to see how GE reaches so many places across the United States and the world.

Product Tour: Healthcare HQ

Recently, a group of IMLPs at GE Healthcare took a tour of Headquarters in Waukesha, WI.

During this tour, we were able to learn about the different products that GE Healthcare sells to hospitals and clinics.  We were able to take a tour of the manufacturing floor where we learned about Six Sigma and Lean principles.

It is always rewarding to learn more about the business as an IMLP.  The program gives us the ability to really grow our knowledge beyond just information technology.

Shocking Trip to Linden

When I tell someone I work for GE, quite frequently their response will be, “GE owns…like… everything!”

While that’s not entirely true, they the company does own/manage quite a lot. Sometimes it’s even too much for me to take in.

However, being part of a large company does have its benefits, and yesterday I got to experience that first hand.

Recently, I had the chance to visit and tour the GE Linden Cogeneration Plant. This plant is owned primarily by GE Capital’s Energy Financial Services and it provides power to the Pennsylvania, New Jersey, and Maryland (PJM) grid.

More often than not, the plant generates more energy than the PJM needs and so recently it has been outfitted with one of the first GE VFTs. VFTs allow the extra power that the plant makes to be passed to the New York grid (long story, but essentially grids have different frequencies).

GE Day: A “Healthy” Introduction to GE’s IMLP Program

GE Healthcare Product ShowcaseToday, more than 65 students from the Milwaukee area came to GE Healthcare’s Research Park for a preview into the IMLP program.

The day began with a presentation from the different Affinity Groups that GE has to offer, including the Asian Pacific American Forum, African American Forum, and the GE Women’s Network.

Students walked through a Product Showcase where they learned about the different products that GE Healthcare manufactures.  They also had a unique opportunity to view the global Live Assist Center.

Shortly after, students participated in roundtables with senior leadership Chief Information Officers from across the GE Healthcare business, where they had the opportunity to ask a variety of questions related to the program.

GE Day 2009 was a great success, allowing both students and IMLPs alike the opportunity to connect on their shared passion for IT.
