Meet the Interns - Corporate

Matt - IMLP Intern - GE CorporateMy first day at GE I had a meeting in a Virtual Collaboration Space to introduce myself to the assignment leader of my IMLP internship.  As an intimidated intern I had no idea what a Virtual Collaboration Space was, hadn't met my assignment leader, and had just moved to a brand new city.  I walked into the room to meet my AL and without looking around I stuck out my hand to introduce myself.  "Hi, my name is Matt and I'll be a Senior at Indiana University majoring in Informatics and Business," I nervously stated.  Little did I know, but I had not only introduced myself to Drew (my assignment leader) but also to people in Georgia, New York, and Poland!

It turns out that Virtual Collaboration Spaces are a new initiative in GE that integrate Cisco Telepresence (a cool way for people to video conference in high-definition) and other collaborative technologies.  My first experience with VCS is a microcosm of my internship at GE:  I've networked with others on a global scale, learned more than I could have ever imagined, and worked with a variety of cutting-edge technologies.  I may have to wake up a little earlier than I do for school but the daily challenges and rewards make it all worth it.

Meet the Interns - GE Aviation

Andrew - 2nd Rotation IMLP Intern - GE AviationI am Andrew, a rising senior at Miami University majoring in Management Information Systems. I am currently an IMLP intern for the Aviation business working in TSG. I chose to intern at GE because I was impressed with the business impact that I was told I would have while interning here. With this being my second internship at GE, I can verify that this is definitely the case. You can really see how your work contributes and is important to the business.

In my current assignment I am working in TSG on the Vault migration team. My primary project is to decide and begin implementation on a tool to be used for file transfer into and out of the Vault. I am also working on a reporting tool for solution architects to use in reporting to CIO’s.

I like the IMLP Intern program for a multitude of reasons including the great people I am surrounded with, the networking and learning, and the fun events and atmosphere. My short term future goal is to get into the IMLP program, and I am sure my experience on program will lead me to discover my next long term goal. In my spare time I do a lot of cycling, and my absolute favorite sport/hobby is snow skiing.

Meet the Interns - GE Aviation

Jon - 2nd Rotation IMLP Intern - GE AviationHi, I’m Jonathan (Jon), and I’m a second rotation IMLP intern working on the Lean Six Sigma Team for GE Aviation.  I’m currently a rising junior at Miami University majoring in Management Information Systems, Interactive Media Studies, and minoring in economics.  I also study in the University Honors and Business Honors programs.  During this rotation at GE, I am an Information Management Project Manager for a centralized database that will collect data from multiple data sources about the Design, Build, Run (DBR) process in Tech Services.

I decided to return this year because my first rotation with GE was an amazing experience where I learned, was challenged, loved my work, and made many new friends and contacts.  The corporate culture at GE is incredibly friendly and helpful and allows for a great work environment where you can always get help and feel welcome to talk to everyone.

My favorite part about being an IMLP intern is the challenging, business critical assignments that you have as an intern. During my time at GE, I have been the focal for the Aviation IMLP intern committee, coordinated the sports schedule for our yearly DiversITy Picnic (no that is not a typo, IT should be capitalized when referring to the picnic), and am currently the IMLP intern staff meeting coordinator.  Doing all of these activities among many others with other IMLP interns is a highlight of the intern experience here at GE and creates very close friendships that are always fun.  Being an IMLP intern at GE is a great experience!
