Try to run a hectic ER with our ‘Patient Shuffle’ game

Do the Patient ShuffleGE’s recent healthymagination thought leadership summit on hospital efficiency took an in-depth look at how medicine is being transformed by measurable new ways to standardize care, reduce errors, and manage critical hospital equipment — and staff — more efficiently. Those changes underway — and the hurdles that doctors and hospital administrators still face in implementing them — are the subject of a new five-part interactive feature, “Healthy Hospitals,” on GE.com. It ranges from videos of hospital staffers who have to juggle operating rooms and equipment use in high-stress environments to the video game, pictured below, that let’s you see just how good (or bad) you might be at trying to alleviate the more than four hours that patients end up waiting on average in an emergency room visit.

Product Tour: Healthcare IT

Recently, I went with a group of Healthcare IMLPs on a tour of the Healthcare IT business in Barrington, Illinois.

GE Healthcare develops software for hospitals and clinics around the world.  This business delivers information at the center of care to help organizations achieve more effective and efficient decisions on behalf of patients and providers.

The software helps improve efficiency and enhance the patient experience. Solutions help drive greater productivity and enhance patient safety with workflows and managing protocols.

I was impressed with how powerful the combination of digitized patient data with computer software can be.  We saw first hand how this advanced technology will literally change how we think about healthcare.

IMLP provides countless opportunities like this and exposes us to some of the most cutting edge technology in the world.

HealthAhead Day at GE

I got an email yesterday from one of the GE Capital IMLP program representatives that Oct. 27th would be considered a dress down day for those participating in HealthAhead day. I began thinking what in the world is HealthAhead... are they going to try to make me eat granola for lunch? I finaly decided that I didn't care so long as I could wear a pair of chuck taylors, jeans, and a warm sweater instead of the usual button down.

GE Vscan: Ultrasound of the future

Last night at the Web 2.0 summit, GE’s Chairman and CEO Jeff Immelt unveiled the new Vscan ultra-smart, ultra-small, ultrasound that may one day become as indispensable as the traditional physician’s stethoscope in patient exams.

This product represents GE's healthymagination initiative, which aims to leverage GE's technical breadth, global position, and financial strength to support healthcare with reduced cost, increased access, and improved quality.

The Vscan itself looks like a cell phone and provides doctors with the ability to make better diagnoses faster and give more patients access to the critical scans they need.

It is exciting as a GE Healthcare IMLP for me to work for a company that is driving such innovative and game-changing technology to the world.

GE Announces Healthymagination

healthymaginationSome of you may be familiar with GE's ecomagination initiative (or maybe you've read our blog post related to it?), a commitment to investing in innovative technologies that benefit the environment. Last Friday, GE CEO Jeff Immelt announced another new initiative along the same lines - healthymagination.

While ecomagination is a commitment to the health of the planet, healthymagination is a commitment to the health of its people. The program focuses on investments, R&D, and innovative new products. The major goals of the initiative are to make high-tech healthcare solutions more affordable and available to parts of the world that are currently underserved.

Similar to the technology investments being made into green technologies and products for ecomagination, GE has committed $3 billion in investments by 2015 for the healthymagination program. Two-thirds of this investment will be geared toward IT development to increase the quality and availability of healthcare services and equipment. As you can imagination, the implications of healthymagination are very exciting for those of us in IT at GE, especially within the GE Healthcare business.
