Imagination Cubed

Imagination CubedOnline collaboration is fun, but it's sometimes hard to "talk through" an idea over the phone without a way to visually display it.

GE has created an online whiteboard for instantaneous screen-sharing without the need to register or create an account. Also, you don't have to wait for your friends to register either, as you can just email them to join your session.

The tool allows you to add text, change the background, add shapes, lines and stamps - it's wonderful in it's simplicity.

And when you're finished creating your online artwork (or a diagram for class), all is not lost- you can print, save, or send.

As lifehacker mentioned in their post, this site would be awesome if you have a tablet PC- as you have that whole pen functionality.

The next round of IMLPs head to Shanghai

ShanghaiWith their 2nd rotations completed, the next round of IMLPs will soon head to Shanghai, China for Senior IMLP Bootcamp.

They’ve gotten their passports, had their immunizations, and packed their luggage.  Now it’s just a matter of days before it’s destination – Shanghai.  In fact, a few IMLPs have already headed off to the orient for some pre-bootcamp travel.

After all, what better way to prepare for bootcamp in Shanghai than with a couple of days or more of vacation in Tokyo, Sidney, Hong Kong, Seoul, Kuala Lumpur, Singapore, New Delhi, Beijing, or one of the many places nearby?

So, how will bootcamp turn out?  Well… having been part of the last bootcamp in Shanghai and knowing the IMLPs who are headed there this time around, I’m sure it’s going to be another amazing time.  I can’t wait to hear the stories they bring back!  But rest assured, when I hear them, so will you.

Best of luck to all the IMLPs headed out. Have a great time.  It really is a once-in-a-lifetime experience that you’ll never forget.

And for those of you waiting on the edge of your seats to hear more… you’ll just have to stay tuned to see what they’re up to.

IMLPs Head to Paris for a New Years to Remember

Eiffel Tower & IMLPsHow great would it be to spend New Year’s in Paris with all of your friends?  Well, this past New Year’s, 10 IMLPs decided to find out.  Flying in from all corners of the world for the event, these IMLPs traveled the distance in an attempt to end the year in style.  And did they ever!  Talk about a trip to remember!

The festivities began just days after Christmas, as the group gathered on the 27th in the great city of Paris, France.  Wasting no time, these IMLPs moved all about the city, seeing historic sites like the Bastille, the Arc de Triumph, the Cathedral of Notre Dame, and the Eiffel Tower, going to amazing places like Montmartre, Opera, the Latin quarter, and the Louvre, and tasting all of the local faire like Parisian crapes, wine, champagne, and cheesecake.  Not only this, but, sparing no expense, they treated themselves to a front-row French Cabaret show at the famous Lido Paris, took a twilight champagne cruise on the Seine River, and indulged in a series of dinners at the finest restaurants Paris has to offer.

Culminating with a night of wining and dining at La Bastide d’Opio, where 2009 was ushered in by shouts, cheers, toasts, hugs, and kisses, and continuing into the wee hours of the morning with drinks at Le Cab, this New Year’s was definitely something special for these 10 IMLPs.  But there was more to their New Year’s Eve than just a twilight cruise, amazing dinner, and crazy night on the town.  IMLP Joel Turcotte proposed to his long-time girlfriend, Kristy… and she said “Yes”!  So, Congratulations to the happy couple!

But all good things must come to an end and all too soon it was time for the IMLPs to head back home again.  So, with a handful of souvenirs, a camera full of pictures, a head full of memories, and a full stomach, the IMLPs returned to their respective corners of the world.  Until next time…

GE & the United Way team up to help the community

Throughout the coming weeks, many GE businesses are setting aside a week from their busy schedules to participate in the United Way Week of Caring program.  This means that thousands of volunteers from throughout GE will be putting down their computers, phones, notepads, and pens and trading them in for shovels, hammers, paintbrushes, and power tools in an effort to better the communities in which they reside.

This week, GE Capital Solutions took to the streets of Danbury, CT to kick off their Week of Caring.  Partnering with Family & Children’s Aid, a local organization that helps children and young adults in need, the volunteers of GE took on a great variety of projects.  With record numbers of volunteers on-hand, efforts were split amongst projects such as building a new playground for the children, creating new concrete walking paths, painting rooms and murals within the many area group homes, creating a library for use in the children’s academic studies, and much more.

I was put to work on the team creating new concrete walking paths.  Step one was to dig out the area where the path was to be placed.  This meant cutting out a 4-foot wide, 4-inch deep, 50-foot long area through what can only be described as “old-fashioned New England farmland… rocky and rooty.”  After digging the path out, the team worked together to stake out and frame the to-be path using 2x4s, wooden stakes, tape measures, hammers, saws, drills, and levels.  Once the frames were in place and secured, we laid in stone dust and leveled the base of the path, making everything ready for the next day’s concrete pour.

Overall, the day was hard work, but it also very rewarding.  Putting aside the fact that it was a great opportunity for networking and team building, it always feels good to take some time to help out people in need.  It’s times like these when I’m proud to be a member of a company like GE.  A company that takes civic engagement as a responsibility… one that puts a priority on giving back to the community.  This is also why I’m glad that IMLP puts a focus on volunteering.  With IMLP-run volunteering committees always organizing volunteering opportunities, the GE volunteers website available as a way to easily find volunteering events in your area, and with business-sponsored initiatives such as the United Way Week of Caring going on, volunteering is definitely a part of IMLP and GE as a whole.  I’m already looking forward to the next one.  Hope to see you there!

IMLPs invade China with IMLP Senior Bootcamp

The IMLPs of the spring class of ’09 gathered this past month in Shanghai, China for Senior Bootcamp training.  However, our rigorous training in networking, data warehousing, enterprise reporting, and business dynamics were far from the only travels that we would embark on over our 3 weeks abroad. From the streets of Shanghai’s Xin Tian Di district to the historic riverside buildings of the Bund… from the lofty heights of the Jin Mao and Pearl towers to the many shops of Yu Gardens and Nanjing Road… from the hallowed grounds of the Jade Buddha Temple to the sea of fabrics in the South Bund Fabric Market… we left no path untraveled and no stone unturned.Venturing even further into the heart of the great Chinese nation, some of us sought out the ancient terracotta warriors of Xi’an while others explored the great metropolis of Beijing.  From the Great Wall to the Temple of Heaven… from the Forbidden City to the 2008 Beijing Olympics… we made sure to see it all and experience everything that China had to offer.Be it the local cuisine like Peking roast duck and soup dumplings or the many nightspots around town, we made sure to make the most of every moment.  Though the journey has come to an end, we’ll never forget the time they spent with our fellow IMLPs at our Senior Bootcamp in China.
