IMLP Bloggers Meet at GE Formal Event (Finally!)

Alana (left) and Brandon meet at a GE event in BaltimoreOn the IMLP program and at GE, we often forge professional relationships with team members from a distance - without ever meeting them in person.

However, over the course of our two years on program, unexpected meetups can often happen.

Take for example Brandon Henak, an IMLP Alumni from GE Healthcare.

Brandon and I worked on the blog in it's early stages, and often have conversations about social media and blogging (we both blog for IMLP and on our personal blogs as well.)

So, while at a GE Event in Baltimore, Maryland, Brandon noticed on Twitter and Foursquare that I was traveling and "checking in" at airports. After sending me a few direct messages on Twitter, we finally met!

He knew that I'd be posting this one on the blog.

A Day in the Life: Chief Blogging Officer (CBO)

Alana presenting on new media & millennials in Atlanta - October 2009 I'm a big fan of blogging.

Maybe that's why I am currently leading IMLP's New Media Team.

Or maybe it's that reading mashable is one of my daily routines.

However you look at it, I like to call myself the CBO: Chief Blogging Officer.

Each week, the team comes together to discuss what's "going on" in the new media scene, and also to collaborate on our team projects.

Take this week for example, our meeting was scheduled for shortly after Apple's Macbook annoucement. Everyone on the call was talking about it and getting feedback from one another.

Calls like this one make me think back one year ago - to IMLP Blog v1.0 - the predeccessor to the blog as you see it now. It was the day when our Facebook page was new, the Wikipedia entry had just launched, and we were the first (and only!) GE leadership program with a blog.

The progression over the course of one year is truly astounding - when the blog was launched, there was not a formalized IMLP New Media Team - and I am thankful to have a talented and hardworking group to work with on projects that are not only cutting edge, but fun.

Plus it's the perfect group of people to discuss that new product release or functionality in Facebook or Twitter. I look foward to see what the team has in store for us in the future - even after I graduate from the IMLP program next August.

A GE Adventure.

windturbine2Ever wanted to see what's going on inside of the GE Global Research Center, or take a trip to the top of a wind turbine?

A new blog, GE Adventure,  has been launched that focuses on a "series of field trips through GE," so you can read about a variety of  adventures.

My favorites include this post about a wind turbine visit- where the bloggers made a parachute out of a plastic bag and dropped it off the 260' high turbine. it even has a video. To check out a photo gallery of GE wind turbines, check out this page.

Or this post, that shows a few antique GE ads, and shows the original text,  “Really, you can’t blame her. Who wouldn’t drag her friends out into the kitchen to show off her new General Electric? There it stands, gleaming white, strong as a safe, incredibly quiet … the envy of all who see it.”

The blog also discusses some of the cool new technologies that folks at the GRC have been working on, including nanotechnology, oled lighting, and more.

The blog is still pretty new, so check back for more first hand information compiled by the bloggers!
