IMLP Blog: Behind the Scenes.

Although you may not be able to tell just by reading this blog or one particular post, there's a lot going on behind the scenes...

The IMLP Blog "went live" in August of 2008 (so we're coming up on our 1 year birthday) and was the first leadership program blog of it's kind here at GE (We're pretty proud of it!).

The premise behind the blog is to provide you (the reader) some background on what life is like as a member of the Information Management Leadership Program directly from those who are currently experiencing it (interns too!). So, as IMLPs, we write in this blog as a side gig (in addition to managing systems projects).

Every six months, members of the IMLP program take on a new project and learn to work directly with a new team... and sometimes this takes place in a different city, state, or country.

Take June 2009 for example. Right now, those in their 4th (and final) rotation of the program are interviewing for off-program jobs, while 2nd/3rd rotationers are waiting to hear about their next assignments, and 1st rotationers are getting ready to kickoff the program at the end of this month before heading to Junior Bootcamp for the month of July.

life update 6/17: My next rotation will be in Houston, Texas for Oil & Gas. More to come in the blog on my cross-country adventure.

We’re Not the Only Ones Blogging These Days…

IMLP BlogEnjoy reading up on the blog to see what IMLPs are up to and the cool things that GE’s doing these days?  Well, we’re not the only ones in GE trying to get the word out about what we do and how we operate.  Interested to see some of the cutting edge technology coming out of our GE research center?  Check out their blog at http://www.grcblog.com/.  Or how about out getting a peek at new breakthroughs at GE Healthcare Europe?  Check out http://gehealthcare.typepad.com/ge_healthcare_blog/.   Rather look at GE from a more holistic, high-level view?  Check out GE’s newest, largest, and furthest reaching blog at http://www.gereports.com/.


We’ve got blogs popping up everywhere and the trend continues to grow.  I’m starting to see both external and interior-facing blogs being used for everything from external information dissemination and recruiting efforts to internal lean workouts and geographically dispersed team coordination. 

In fact, GE’s even incorporated a personal blog into every employee’s internal GE profile, allowing you to post tidbits of information about things you’ve been working on or need assistance on and have your colleagues read it and reply back.  For example, I subscribe to GE’s CIO’s personal blog.  He posts every once and a while about new things that he’s looking into, his vision on select topics, etc. and these have been extraordinarily insightful to me, allowing me to see his plans for the future and new opportunities that exist on the horizon.

How’s that for imagination at work?
