A First Rotation Comes to a Close

Two weeks ago, NBCU held their final pitchouts for rotations.

For many of the LP's this was nothing new as they were finishing their 3rd Rotation and moving to thier 4th/final rotation. However for myself, and a few others, this was a first.

For those who are new to the term "pitchouts," let me elaborate.

At the end of each rotation, LP's are required to sum up everything they worked on into a 3-4 minute pitch. Not too extreme right? Well I quickly found out that cramming the 4 different projects I was working on into 3 slides while still getting my points accross is a skill that took weeks of refining.

Add the fact that you are pitching to the Presedent of Media Works, and other high-level executives. and the last few weeks of your rotation can be a little tedious.

Don't let this scare you though. This program is regarded by many as extremely prestigious and many of the executives look foward to our pitches at the end of each rotation. This kind of exposure so early in one's career is extremely rewarding.

Plus, you practice and refine your pitch for weeks prior to the actual pitchout dates, with the help of the other LP's, our AL's, your managers, and anyone else you can tie down and force to listen to you. I even practiced while playin a few rounds of Modern Warfare 2 after work.

The most rewarding thing about these pitches is watching and listening to the excutives use the information you provide them with to start discussing amoungst themselves about certain initiatives. That's when you see that the projects your given on this program really drive value to the business.

Although, a huge weight was lifted from my shoulders when pitches were finished, the rotation is not yet complete.

I need to begin to prepare for moving into my next rotation, as well as prepare for the next LP that might take over for where I left off. Once we know our official rotations, and we hit the designated start dates, the cycle begins again, and 5-6 months later, you get to read another one of my posts from a 2nd Rotation IMLP's perspective. YAY!
