I want this post to be a little bit different from how I usually post. I'm interested to hear your opinions on this topic
Today I attended an information session run by IT leadership regarding technology trends and some internal tools that GE has built to utilize information creatively.
It really got me thinking about how times have changed.
In the past, information was hard to obtain and manage. But today, we are in a day where the vast majority has access to a computer and mainframes with punch cards are a thing of the past.
Google’s scanners are scanning books and publications 24/7. As of late 2009, the world has nearly 500 exabytes (that’s 500 billion gigabytes) of data.[2] There is so much data, it would take 2 million people nearly their entire life to open every single document (and that’s not even including reading it). It is no longer an issue about gathering data; it is an issue about what to do with it.
So how is one supposed to use all of this data and turn it into valuable information?
How can we possibly comprehend so much data and put it to good use in one place?
Imagine a tool that could compile millions of different sources in one place and display it in multiple dimensions in a way that it is easily understood…
Please comment back with your responses.

Wow. I guess people don't really realize how much information is out there. If someone were to find a way to compile all of that information into one visualization, think of the kind of possibilities. The more information one has, the closer one can get to 100% certainty of predicting future events (without ever truly reaching 100% of course). Imagine having that tool when investing in the stock market or commodities.
