University of Dayton: A Recruiting Story

Dayton '09

Gooooo Dayton Flyers!

“Learn, Lead, Serve.”  That is the motto which every Dayton Flyer fully embraces.  Throughout my first three years at the University of Dayton, I was pretty certain I never wanted to leave.  However, it was inevitable that someday I would need to go out and find myself a job - that’s when the dreaded summer internship search began.  I went to career fairs, did on-campus interviews and phone interviews, but nothing seemed to interest me.

Just as I started to become discouraged, I received an email from a current IMLP who recently graduated from UD.  He gave a description of his average day, which included meeting with top management as well as balancing a number of different projects simultaneously.  That was it.  I knew IMLP was the best fit, so I decided to fully pursue the opportunity.  Two phone interviews later, I was filling out paperwork for my summer internship.  After 12 weeks of hard work I was offered a position!

When I left UD, I knew I was going to miss the Learn, Lead, Serve culture.  Now, after 3 months on the job, I have found out that I never left that culture – GE fully embraces the balance of executing projects, leading teams, groups and committees, as well as serving the overall community.  IMLP is a wonderful opportunity for any technically oriented graduate – take the time to check it out!
