Syracuse: A Recruiting Story
September 21, 2009
Syracuse '08 'Cuse. Class of 2008. Me.
Not long ago, I was an undergraduate at Syracuse's iSchool, studying information management & technology and marketing.
While at Syracuse, I managed to stay somewhat involved: working as an undergraduate research associate (even getting a shoutout in my boss' book!), doing the homecoming queen thing, volunteering on a vineyard in Corleone, Sicily, having fun, and interning for the IMLP program at GE for two summers (repeats are allowed!)
I get this question often: "Alana, how did you find out about IMLP? How did you get the internship?"
Well, readers, at the time (believe it or not) the IMLP blog and the facebook page did not exist (gasp!). So, I heard about the IMLP program and internship opportunities via a classroom visit by Syracuse alumni who were in the program.
While watching the presentation in my (I think it was computer networking?) class, I was immediately drawn to the chance to move around the country and work on a variety of projects in Information Management.
It was as simple as that. So, I went to the Syracuse career fair (at the carrier dome of course) spoke to a few campus recruiters, and landed an interview!
Two summer internships later (with Energy and Aviation), I'm a full-time, 3rd rotation IMLP currently working for Oil & Gas in Houston, Texas.
