GE Announces Healthymagination
May 15, 2009
Some of you may be familiar with GE's ecomagination initiative (or maybe you've read our blog post related to it?), a commitment to investing in innovative technologies that benefit the environment. Last Friday, GE CEO Jeff Immelt announced another new initiative along the same lines - healthymagination.
While ecomagination is a commitment to the health of the planet, healthymagination is a commitment to the health of its people. The program focuses on investments, R&D, and innovative new products. The major goals of the initiative are to make high-tech healthcare solutions more affordable and available to parts of the world that are currently underserved.
Similar to the technology investments being made into green technologies and products for ecomagination, GE has committed $3 billion in investments by 2015 for the healthymagination program. Two-thirds of this investment will be geared toward IT development to increase the quality and availability of healthcare services and equipment. As you can imagination, the implications of healthymagination are very exciting for those of us in IT at GE, especially within the GE Healthcare business.
