Collaboration at work: Technology Infrastructure Reunion Weekend
October 8, 2009
Last weekend, the first rotation IMLPs from GE's Technology Infrastructure business met up in Cincinnati, Ohio, the world headquarters of GE Aviation.
During our visit, we had the unique opportunity to tour the vast Aviation facility.
- First, we went on a customer showcase where we were shown all of the different jet engines that GE Aviation manufactures and sells.
- We then took a private tour of the manufacturing plant, learning about how the engines are assembled on the production line.
- Finally, we were able to see the huge power of the machines during a live engine test.

While on the customer showcase, we witnessed how the collaborative culture at GE can help solve real business problems. Most think that, to inspect an engine, you have to take the engine off the wing. Aviation was able to solve this problem by leveraging Healthcare based ultrasound technology.
They are able to scan and diagnose engine problems during inspections just like a doctor would without having to take the engine off the wing, which saves hours of time. This kind of boundaryless idea sharing shows the strength of collaboration and teamwork.
Overall, the weekend served as a great bonding experience for the IMLPs from across Technology Infrastructure. It truly brought forth the idea on how boundaryless collaboration works.
